Brecon Beacons

2018

Want amazing weekend without taking a plane? Read on…

I have a big group of old friends who love to get away together a couple of times a year. Due to hectic schedules and limited annual leave, we choose to head to places in the UK for long weekends. A few of the group are drivers with cars which is ideal. We all meet at a London tube station and drive to our mini break destination!

We had a very special bank holiday weekend this year in the Brecon Beacons…

If you have a large group then I’d recommend staying at this incredible AirBnb just 3 hours drive from west London – Rural Farm House, Stunning Views! It’s a gorgeous secluded house in the Brecon Beacons and can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests. Step outside the house and you’ll enjoy extraordinary views. We paid £732 for 2 nights / 9 = £82.33 each.

*TOP TIP* – plan ahead!!! We put in a massive Tesco order before we went and scheduled it to arrive at the AirBnb when we did. Luckily we have an amazing group of friends who are fantastic cooks, so we prepared and ate most meals at the house. A Tesco order for 1 x dinner, 2 x breakfasts, 1 x lunch, snacks and a ton of booze amounted to around £30 per person which is an absolute bargain.

We had sunny weather so were fortunate enough to be able to eat all of our meals outside. There is a large table inside too which I can imagine being cosy and cute during the winter. There’s also a log fire with plenty of wood to keep you warm!

The AirBnb provides plenty of maps for different walks depending on how far you want to go. We went for a long walk around a reservoir which we drove to. There are definitely pretty cross-country options if you’d prefer a more challenging walk.

Our favourite part of the day was sunset when we’d take a 5 minute walk to the highest point (armed with beers / bottles of prosecco) and watch the sun go down. Truly breathtaking!

On the second night we went for dinner at the local pub which was about a 30 min walk from the AirBnb. The food was nice and it was fun to have a change of scenery for an evening!

We particularly enjoyed the walk home – the sky was so clear you could see the stars!!!

Whilst this was a very simple trip, it was honestly the best! If you have great friends being all together wherever you are is amazing, let alone in a stunning Welsh national park! It is also SO cheap. £82 for the AirBnb, £30 for Tesco order, £20 for petrol, £50 for dinner out – £182 total & it felt like the South of France!
